Corporate charter - This is the document prepared when a corporation is formed. The charter lists the basic goals of the corporation and what the corporation can and can not do to meet those goals.
For example, when a corporation opens a margin account
, the securities firm has to look at the charter to find out if is acceptable for the corporation to have a margin account.
